The Dixie Chicks, who have taken much criticism for their outspoken attitude towards George W. Bush's warmongering policies, were the big winners at the Grammies.

The band won five Grammy Awards Sunday night, including the three big ones: album of the year, song of the year, and record of the year. They also were awarded best country duo or group with vocal, and best country album for their latest, Taking the Long Way. Members in the group have stated they don't consider themselves specifically country any longer, perhap sin part due to their crossover success with the Fleetwood Mac classic "Landslide" a few year sback, but perhaps more because of their virtually shunning by others in the industry after offering some sharp comments aimed at the president. The success of the Dixie Chicks demonstrates that free speech does indeed pay off in the end, not to mention standing up for your principles.
