Barack Obama has announced he is putting his name forth as the Democratic candidate for the 2008 presidential election in the United States.
Obama has spoken out against the war in Iraq, but it will be an uphill battle. First of all, his main competition is Hillary Rodham Clinton, who has a much higher profile. Others have pointed out Obama's lack of experience. Well, as a friend pointed out to me this morning, what can really prepare one for the presidency? And what experience did Bush have other than coming from a presidential family? His lack of knowledge and sophistication has become legend, even amongst some conservatives. And being married to a former president does not exactly qualify one to be president either. Barack Obama is a likely choice for those in the peace movement because he has made his position on the U. S. invasion of Iraq clear.
