Trouble in Gaza

The area looms on the brink of civil war

The eyes of the world are turning to Gaza recently, and this time it has little to do with Israel and more to do with the area's own government.

Hamas, the more militantly religious, and Fateh, more secular, have been at it again with violence. This civil unrest is causing casualities and injuries amongst those living in the area. Speculation has been raised about a full-out civil war erupting. Not too much is being said in peace circles - these are two factions of the same people, and not a case of two countries trying to dominate each other, or one country throwing its weight around and trying to occupy the other. However, the same could be said of Darfur. We need to be mindful of needing to encourage peace in the places that need it most. The people of Gaza have enough to contend with, without their own leadership making things even harder.
